Prayers have been answered!! I’m so excited to have been accepted to return to Uganda as a Social Media Intern summer 2019 with HEAL Ministries!
Since college graduation in 2017, I’ve been working for a marketing agency that services small, woman owned businesses and nonprofits. I’ve gained a lot of experience in marketing and social media and am grateful for the opportunity to help HEAL grow their online presence and raise brand awareness.
About HEAL:
HEAL Ministries employs over 60 Ugandans (almost all of them are women–girl power!) at The James Place in Jinja. They work in childcare, education, social work, laundry, cooking, housekeeping, and property management.
Family Preservation:
The James Place is where parents can drop their kids off and know that their child is being well-fed, cared for, and educated, while they go off to work for the day with no worries and distractions. HEAL provides single parents a chance to make a living for themselves and their families, therefore preventing the difficult decision to give a child up for adoption.
Woman Empowerment / Artisan Programs:
HEAL’s mission is to keep families together and empower women by giving them the tools they need to support themselves and their families. They have several artisan programs where widowed women learn valuable skills such as pottery, basket weaving, sewing, jewelry making, and rug weaving. Once they leave The James Place they can continue their craft to support themselves. HEAL also offers English classes (English is the national language of Uganda) so the women will be able to communicate as well as read and write to advance their place in the workforce.
Preschool:
HEAL's teachers create a structured classroom that promotes creativity in an environment making it easy to learn. They recently expanded their preschool program, allowing more children (including orphans from Amani Baby Cottage) to enroll in school!
Childcare:
This program was started because women were not able to attend school or work without someone to look after their children. Childcare is a safe place of play, nutrition and fun for kids too young to enroll in preschool. Every day each child is bathed, dressed in clean clothes, and put down for a nap.
Support HEAL:
I previously spent the summer of 2017 at The James Place as a Social Media Intern and quickly learned how special The James Place was. HEAL has saved so many families and I’m honored to be able to return to Uganda to serve them. I'm raising money to cover costs of airfare, room, and board at The James Place. Any additional funds will be used to purchase needed items for the preschool. Every donation is truly appreciated and if you can not donate, please say a prayer for me as I prepare to go back.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
